This approach to Holmes is right for the times, but also truer to the original than is commonly believed. He was quite a boxer and he had adopted the British variant marshal art adapted from the Japanese fighting style, ju jitsu, known as Baritsu. I tried to do the same thing when I had Holmes and magician, Harry Houdini teamed in my recently released novel, THE PANDORA PLAGUE. It is a modern day thriller disguised as a Sherlock Holmes story, complete with the big movie tropes and an edge-of-the-seat climax.

Why, why, why did they entitle this action movie Sherlock Holmes? This has nothing whatsoever to do with Arthur Conan Doyle’s hero.
This is also not ACDoyle’s Holmes. Dr. Watson would never never … n e v e r hit Holmes. He had the utmost respect for him. I’m referring to the Holmes and Watson of Doyle’s articles and books. This is more along the lines of Gene Wilder’s S. H.’s Smarter Brother. Farce. The writers and directors were clearly making fun of the series. This, in no way, should be considered a legitimate Sherlock Holmes movie.
And the producers should be ashamed of themselves for this insult to Holmes fans.
Call it “Bubba Boington and His Surly Sidekick Snidley Take London By Storm” – or anything besides Sherlock Holmes!
