There were 12 Sherlock Holmes movies released in the 1930’s starring seven different actors. It was in 1939 that Basil Rathbone donned a deer stalker hat and put a Mahogany Calabash Pipe to his lips and took on the role of Sherlock Holmes. A role that he would repeat more than any other actor, appearing in 14 films between 1939 and 1946, plus a brief stint in a television series and a radio series.
