I was exposed to the tales and movies of Sherlock Holmes at an impressionable young age and have been enamored of the great detective ever since. I think it was my older brother who “made” me watch the Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce movies while he was babysitting me. Those old back and white movies were re-played quite a lot as I recall and yet I never tired of watching them. Of course as I got older, I understood the complexities of the stories better and enjoyed them even more.

While participating in a study abroad program in London, I loved browsing through the myriad of book shops and in one little shop I found The Original Illustrated Sherlock Holmes: 37 Short Stories Plus a Complete Novel Comprising the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, and the Hound of the Baskervilles. I was ecstatic at my find. And carried the heavy tome across the Atlantic packed safely in a suitcase.

There have been 75 actors who have played Sherlock Holmes in 211 movies and this does not include the television series, the plays or the radio shows. Obviously, I am not the only one who enjoys the tales of Sherlock Holmes.

And now 122 years after his debut, Sherlock Holmes is yet again featured in a movie. Although set in 1891, this movie has “modernized” Sherlock Holmes and the movie is filled with action and specials effects that belie its Victorian settings.

This site is a celebration of the 2009 release of the Sherlock Holmes movie and a commemoration of 122 years of Sherlock Holmes.
